What a typical Crawlspace Medic job runs

Basement and crawl space issues affect the rest of your house, whether it's a structural issue or a moisture issue. Your problem may be out of sight but that doesn't mean it's not affecting your home.
Basement waterproofing
Who does basement waterproofing in Harrisburg, PA?
Crawlspace Medic of Harrisburg offers basement waterproofing and crawl space services to the greater Harrisburg, PA area. Our basement method is interior drainage first: a drain below the slab along the basement wall, a sump pump, and permanent dehumidification. Inspections are free and photo-documented.
“We make sure the substructure of your house is right. Because if that's not right, then you're gonna have issues with the rest of the house.”
Five things, done well.

How It Works
Simple, and on your terms.
The inspection
We start outside with a lap around the house, then cover the full basement or crawl space underneath. We read the moisture levels, the floor structure, the insulation, the vapor barrier, and any sign of pests.
The photos
Whatever turns up is documented in photos as we go, so nothing rests on our word alone. You see the same pictures we do, condition by condition.
The recommendations
Afterward we walk you through the findings and the photos together. What we propose is itemized and fitted to your house and your budget, with the evidence behind each line.
Harrisburg, in your operator's words
What a Harrisburg house sits on.
The area is mountainous and rocky, and within a mile a property can go from valley level to well up a mountainside. The soil varies with it, from rock to sandy clay to plain dirt, and it is often mixed.
Then there is the river. Harrisburg sits in the Susquehanna River valley, and the Susquehanna begins in upstate New York. Kyle's observation is that after a big storm or a heavy snow upstream, the water reaches the Harrisburg area later, and the flooding can be heavy.
None of that tells you what is happening in your basement, but it is the setting that informs the type of issues that show up in the Harrisburg area. Our inspection is tailored to your house, and our local knowledge solves the problems in your basement or crawl space.

The Science, in One Picture
How moisture moves from the soil into your air

Effects of elevated moisture
- Mold growth
- Insect infestation
- Poor air quality
- Structural damage
Not sure what's going on under your house?
It costs you nothing to have an inspection. We show you exactly what we find, then you decide.
How water leaves a house
Water needs a way out.
Crawlspace Medic operators describe their work as solutions rather than systems. In their telling, proposals are itemized, nothing is sold as a standard package, and each recommendation has evidence behind it.
For water, we have four tools. French drains along the inside perimeter carry water to a sump, and extensions take downspout water away from the house. A sump pump can also stand alone at the low point, and encapsulation is the fourth. A house usually needs more than one of them, and the mix is designed around its layout, its soil, and the climate.

Pricing, compared.
How our price stacks up against the rest.
Cut-rate crews
$1,000–$2,000
A loose sheet of plastic over the problem. Fails, then gets redone on top of the damage it let happen.
Crawlspace Medic
$5,000–$10,000
The honest middle: real materials, sealed and dried, done right the first time.
National foundation chains
$15,000–$30,000
The same scope, plus the markup for a full, white-labeled system.
That $5,000–$10,000 band is where most encapsulation jobs land, not a cap. Larger crawl spaces, structural repair, or a full restoration run higher: a complete restoration on a bigger home can reach $15,000 or more. Your exact price comes from the inspection, based on size, access, and what the crawl space actually needs.
The free inspection
We document first and recommend second.
Every engagement starts under the house with a camera and a moisture meter. You get photos of what we found, readings instead of adjectives, and a verdict we are willing to put in writing. If the space is dry and sound, we say so and leave you the photos. If it needs work, you will know exactly why before you ever see a price.

What We Measure
Where your framing falls on the moisture scale
12–16% is safe. Once framing crosses 20%, active decay becomes likely, and the report shows you exactly where yours reads.
A damp crawl space doesn't stay a crawl space problem. It becomes a whole-home one.
Cupping floors, that musty smell, and rising power bills usually trace back to the same place. The good news: it's fixable, and the sooner it's caught, the less there is to undo.
What we don't do
Basement waterproofing and foundation repair sound close, and they are different trades. Crawlspace Medic of Harrisburg works on water and moisture in basements and crawl spaces, and on the wood framing inside a crawl space. Slab leveling, push piers, and helical piers are foundation contractor work, and we do not offer any of them. When an inspection turns up signs that the structure itself is moving, we will tell you plainly and point you to a foundation specialist. What we do recommend comes with the photos and moisture readings behind it.
Common Questions
Harrisburg basement and crawl space questions, answered.
Is basement waterproofing the same as foundation repair?
No, and Crawlspace Medic of Harrisburg only does the first. Waterproofing manages the water: where it enters, where it collects, and how it leaves. Foundation repair corrects a structure that is moving, with piers under the footing or leveling under a slab, and we do not do that work. If your inspection shows signs of movement, we will name it and point you to a foundation specialist.
Are Harrisburg homes mostly basements or crawl spaces?
Mostly basements. Kyle, who operates this office, says most single-family homes around Harrisburg are built with basements, and that crawl spaces exist but are the minority. Crawlspace Medic of Harrisburg offers both.
What should a Harrisburg homeowner know about the ground and the water here?
Here is how Kyle describes it: The terrain is mountainous and rocky, and the soil runs from rock to sandy clay to plain dirt, often mixed. Harrisburg sits in the Susquehanna River valley, and after a big storm or a heavy snow upstream the water reaches Harrisburg later, and the flooding can be heavy. A single day can start at 40 degrees and end at 80. Those are local observations, and they are context. What they mean for one house is a question for our inspection.
How does Crawlspace Medic waterproof a basement?
From the inside, with drainage first. The footer along the basement wall is exposed, a drain goes in below the slab, and that drain runs to a sump pump set below the slab. The concrete is patched back over the trench, and permanent dehumidification follows. The plan for a given house comes out of our inspection, because, as we put it, "no two houses are the same".
What does our inspection include, and what does it cost?
It is free here, as it is at every Crawlspace Medic location. The visit covers the whole basement or crawl space and is documented in photos, beginning outside the house and moving to moisture levels, the floor structure, insulation, the vapor barrier, and signs of pests. You are shown what turned up and given recommendations sized to your house and your budget. To schedule one, just give us a call.
How much does basement waterproofing cost in Harrisburg?
A basement cannot be priced well before someone has seen it. The number follows from how large the space is, where the water gets in, and what the inspection documents. We do not post a price list, because our inspection sets the scope. The inspection itself is free, and you get a firm number after it.
