Most of what we find is water related, as simple as that sounds. A lot of people have no idea there is water under their house, and the ones who do not have standing water usually have high humidity instead, especially heading into August and September. We are in Tornado Alley, so we get violent weather and squall lines that dump rain fast. When ten inches falls in half a day, the ground has nowhere to put it and it ends up under houses.
Our primary soil around here is a silty kind of clay, but it changes depending on where you are in town. If you look at where I-265 and I-65 cross and go to the southwest corner of that, there is a lot of muck, because it used to be swamp land, and Bullitt County is the same story. Go across to southern Indiana and it was all built on a shale and limestone bed, which makes for really good foundations but holds water like a swimming pool.
